What could be improved:

  • disallow mixing lists types,
  • allow both '*' and '-' in lists,
  • allow both '=' and '!' in headings,
  • treat all __...__, **...** and //...// as three different kind of emphasis, without specifying the exact presentation,
  • disallow mixing of emphasis types,
  • have markup for inline and block quotes,
  • have markup for headings in tables (or drop the tables entirely),
  • have markup of some common characters not easily accessible from keyboard, like "--" for en-dash, "---" for em-dash, "..." for ellipsis, etc.,
  • have gudelines for extending Creole (like <<...>> for placeholder, maybe add $$...$$ for math).

What I think should change before final spec:

  • ignore line breaks in paragraph text,
  • have markup for forced line break,
  • require a space (or tab) after the list bullets,

This is where I stand for today (2006-12-29). I'm open to explain/discuss my reasons behind any of these points. I reserve a right to change my mind about any of these points.
