Update: I researched the syntax in MediaWiki a little closer (I never used it), and I can see that the conflict with {{{{{...}} }}} is not that bad. As far as I can tell, in MediaWiki {{{{{foo}} }}} includes template "foo" on the page (if "foo" is a template), while in Creole, {{{{{foo}} }}} includes image "foo" on the page (if "foo" is an image). Since a page cannot be a template and an image at the same time (at least I assume it can't), and since templates can only be local pages -- the engine can check the type of page being included. This is not very distinct semantically too, so I guess it's good?
I still don't see a solution for wikis using "{{{{{...}} }}}" for monospaced text.
