At first glance, I don't like the tilde too much, either. Is there somewhere where I can read up on its benefits? To me, it feels like a construct that seems nice in theory, but leads to chaos in practice. It would nice to have some motivating examples. I would be useful for escaping free-standing CamelCase words; but that is something I strongly oppose, anyway.
